The cathedral has a rectangular basilica-type shape, in addition to perceiving three naves: nave of the epistle, the nave of the Gospel, and the central nave, which coincide with the three doors on the façade.
In addition, it has fourteen cruciform pillars that determine the distribution of the twenty-four entrance vaults and that of the transept. What’s more, the main altar is made entirely of silver, the Sacristy is made up of forty canvases of the Bishops and Archbishops of Cusco.

QORICANCHA

However, the museum shows the chronological evolution of the civilization in Cusco. It also exhibits fragments and ceramics from the Inca period, as well as samples of metallurgy, textiles, painting, sculpture, and musical instruments.

SACSAYHUAMAN

Sacsayhuamán was considered by the Spanish as a military building due to its strategic location; It had different entrances, which functioned as accesses to the various levels of the fortress. Therefore, the following are Tiu Punco, Acahuana Puncu, and Huiracocha Puncu; It is said that, at one of these doors, Francisco Pizarro’s brother lost his life when a stone fell on his head; this happened while the Spanish attacked the forces of Manco Inca.
Likewise, its walls are made of immense stones, reach up to 9 meters in height, and are considered the largest in terms of Inca archaeological sites. Likewise, in its interior, there are sacred lagoons, warehouses, water channels, ceremonial temples, and 33 complexes.

QENQO

It is considered a sacred place in which probably, therefore, ceremonies were held in honor of the Sun, the Moon, and the stars. For this reason, inside, there is an altar for agrarian rituals, underground galleries; however, outside it, there is a circular amphitheater with trapezoidal niches, a puma-shaped monolith, and rocky stairs in a zigzag shape.

OVERVIEW

CUSCO CITY TOUR

  • In the morning: 8:30 am to 1 pm
  • In the afternoon: 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm

We pick you up from your hotel at a chosen time slot. In the beginning, you are briefed by our Tour Guide about the tour. Then we will firstly visit the Cathedral of Cosco. It is a Colonial building dating back to the 16th century which keeps great potential and houses many paintings from the so-called “Escuela Cusqueña” (Cusco´s School).

Secondly, we come to see Qoricancha (“Golden Temple”) – The temple used to have a golden roof that was melted down and stolen by the Spanish conquistadors. They also intended to destroy the temple building the Santo Domingo Church atop.

Thirdly, we head to the giant fortress of Sacsaywaman, the place of dreams of many travelers. You can appreciate there the majesty of its walls finely carved in stones, some of which surpass 100 tons, forming three huge terraces. Afterward, we continue to our fourth stop: Qenqo. This place represents the underworld. It was built for religious, magical purposes. We can observe there a cave carved in a solid rock that leads to a stone altar.

Just a short distance far away, we can see another architectural site called Puca Pucara or the “Red Fortress”. It was constructed to control an Inca trail for those coming from “Antisuyo” (the Amazonian Zone). Lastly, we ride to Tambomachay – consisting of sacred water fountains considered to be the sacred baths of the Incas. In general, it is a construction of water channels that collects water from the depths of the mountains.

The Peru – Classic Cusco Tour ends by bringing us back to the hotel where our Tour Guides tells you goodbye.
