MACHUPICCHU TRAIL – HUCHUY QOSQO 3D/2N

Trip Overview

DESCRIPTION

The Machu Picchu Trail – Huchuy Qosqo invites you to explore two architectonic jewels of Inca architecture. While you likely have heard a lot about the astonishing Inca citadel – Machu Picchu, it is probable you know nothing or just a little about Huchuy Qosqo. For that reason, let us present you with this archaeological complex.

Huchuy Qosqo or “Huch’uy Qusqu” means “Little Cusco” in Quechua native language. It received this name in the 20th century. Before, it was known as Kakya Qawani meaning the “Place from Where the Lightning Can Be Seen” (lightning was associated with the Inca god of weather – Illapa, who brings lightning, thunder, and rain).

The complex is situated 50 km to the north of Cuzco and it is not accessible by any means of transport. It lies at an altitude of 3,650 meters (11,980 feet). From this height, it offers splendid views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the neighboring mountains.

The settlement dates back to the period between 1000 and 1400 AD. At the beginning of the 13th century, it converted into a royal estate of the ninth Inca ruler Viracocha, who let built royal palaces around 1420 AD. Huchuy Qosqo has got a distinctive architecture. There can be seen many constructions, some of which are made of stone and others of adobe. One of them is “Kalinka” – a big 40-meter long hall. Huchuy Qosqo was supplied by water through a stone channel. There are also “colqas” – storehouses and “Andenes” – agricultural terraces.

Come to enjoy hiking with X Travel Peru following an authentic Inca path leading from Tambomachay to the mysterious Huchuy Qosqo finishing your trip at the New Wonder of the World – Machu Picchu!
