PALCOYO – ANOTHER RAINBOW MOUNTAIN 1D

Trip Overview

DESCRIPTION

Likewise, the Rainbow Mountain (or “Viñicunca”), Palcoyo (another colourful mountain range) is the result of an extraordinary geological process. It has got different earth layers of multi-colours: ochre and red with green-blue and white stripes creating a unique effect. From its viewpoint, 3 colourful mountains (reaching up to 5,000 metres) in their all greatness and immensity can be seen. Besides that, the majestic Ausangate (the most important Cusco Region´s “Apu” – a natural guardian deity) can be appreciated there from another point of view. On the same site, a remarkable forest of rocks is located. These are rock peaks of the height of trees that look like a true geological labyrinth.

Palcoyo is situated in the same-named community, in the Checacupe District within the province of Canchis in the Cusco Department. It is only 20 km south of the famous Rainbow Mountain.

Hiking the Palcoyo – Another Rainbow Mountain trek is an excellent option for those who dislike walking too much or who are not in perfect physical shape. Long acclimatization is not necessary either. The trek is easy because our transport takes you almost to the site and you need to walk just a short distance for 30 minutes. On the way, you have many opportunities to observe gorgeous alpacas and other animals typical for the area. The colourful mountains are even more engaging than the Rainbow Mountain!

Do not hesitate to discover it with X Travel Peru! 🙂

Early morning at 6 am, your Tour Guide come to your hotel to pick you up. Afterwards, you get on our private vehicle bringing you to the village of Cusipata after a 2-hour ride. We stop there to enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast prepared by our Cooks at the restaurant “LA MONTANA”. Then, we keep the ride for 1 hour more towards the Combapata District where we find the Bridge of Checacupe (3,441 m). This is a hanging bridge made by Quechuas natives to favour the Inca Empire. Our hike starts at the altitude of 4,800 m.a.s.l. We trek for 30 minutes till we reach the first viewpoint located at 4,900 metres. There, we can already see the colourful mountain range of Palcoyo consisting of 3 mountains.

Also, we can observe there the immense Mt Ausangate (the most important Apu of the Cusco Region). Before we get to our destination, we may appreciate marvellous rock formations. Upon arrival, we have an hour at the site to admire the stunning landscape.
