OVERVIEW
TOUR VIEWPOINT OF THE CONDOR AND HUMANTAY LAGOON
DAY 1: CUSCO – QUILLARUMIYOC – TARAWASI – CHONTA – CONDOR CANYON – MOLLEPATA
Tour Viewpoint of the Condor and Humantay Lagoon. To start, at 8 am, we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to start our incredible adventure. In our transport, we go to the Limatambo District (2,554 m / 8,379 feet) observing a route full of natural and cultural beauty. Along the way, we make a couple of stops to visit two Inca archaeological remains. First, Quillarumiyuc (3,650 m / 11,975 ft), a temple dedicated to the Moon with its beautiful waterfall (50 km from Cusco). Second, Tarawasi (2,675 m / 8,776 ft) – a complex built by Inca Pachacutec.
We continue our tour passing through the Huayronca bridge. From there, we follow an unpaved road making some stops to take photos of the Salkantay Snow Mountain and the Limatambo Valley. We arrive at the town of Chonta, where they serve us lunch while we enjoy the magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains of Salkantay and Humantay.
Then, we started walking for about 45 minutes until we reached the Condor Canyon Viewpoint located at 3,400 m.a.s.l. (11,155 p.a.s.l.). We wait here to see some condors, the sacred birds of the Incas. In general, they appear shortly afterwards so that we have the opportunity to observe these impressive Andean condors in flight and in their natural habitat. They usually fly very close to the viewpoint, so we can safely take many photos of them. In the end, we return to Chonta where our vehicle waits to take us to the town of Mollepata (2,900 m / 9,514 ft), the place for our dinner and accommodation in a hotel.

Early morning, we are served an American breakfast at the restaurant “La Casa Salkantay” while enjoying the fabulous natural scenery of Mollepata that owes its name to the number of plantations of “mole” (Schinus mole, also known as Peruvian Peppertree).
Then, we continue our journey by vehicle to Soraypampa (3,850 m/12,631 ft) where we perform a small ceremony for the mountain deities “Apus” in order to have a smooth trek. Afterwards, we begin the one and half an hour trail towards the Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m/13,780 ft). Upon arrival, we observe this natural jewel of various shadows of turquoise colour for an hour. The lagoon is supplied with water from the melted glacier of the Mt Humantay (5,473 m/ 17,956 ft), on which foothill it is placed. Later on, we also climb up a part of the snowy Humantay Mountain in order to appreciate a spectacular panoramic view of the lagoon.
Afterwards, we trek back to Soraypampa and from there, we go by vehicle to Mollepata. We visit “La Casa Salkantay” again to be given a buffet lunch in a Creole style.
