Description

The region of Puno is located on the plateau of Callao, the highest of the Andes of South America. Because it has a flat relief, at an altitude of almost 4,000 meters. It limits to the north with Mother of God; to the east with Bolivia, to the south with Tacna; West with Moquegua, Arequipa and Cusco. The department of Puno is cold and semi-dry. The rainy season starts in October and ends in April. The maximum annual average temperature is 15°C.

Puno is considered as the folkloric capital of Peru, Puno is immensely rich in dances, music, customs and legends, the amount of dances exceeds 350. Puno is known for the varied and colorful of its folklore, undoubtedly the richest and most dazzling of America, its party of maximum expression is the celebration of the Virgin of the Candlemas that realizes in the month of February. Its most important attraction of Puno is Lake Titicaca (it is considered the highest lake in the world and largest in America), in this lake is the famous floating island of the Uros, an artificial island created with Totora – Lake Titicaca. Also another island of Taquile where you can have the experience of experiential tourism. Puno also invites you to discover a cultural attraction such as the Sillustani Islands (a construction of funerary tombs of the pre-Inca culture). Another attraction is the forest of Tinajani, which impresses by its natural marine rock formations. Gastronomy

Gastronomy in Puno is distinguished from other regions, by using ingredients from the same place and cooking the products based on firewood, as their ancestors did, also using “handmade pots” made of clay, many of their dishes are typical and some influenced from the neighboring country of Bolivia.
